Cut the Rope is taking on Where's My Water in a new Spinoff

Well that's unexpected

The past few days have been great for classic mobile franchises – a few days ago, a new Subway Surfers spinoff was released, Crossy Road Rush launched on Apple Arcade, and now Cut the Rope is also showing signs of life yet again.

This new spinoff is called Cut the Rope: Candy Trail, and gameplay-wise it's exactly like Where's My Water. You have to use your finger to swipe around the screen to get rid of dirt, except instead of trying to navigate water into Swampy's bathtub, you're guiding a bunch of candy into Om Nom's gluttonous mouth. The more he eats, the heavier he gets. If you reach a certain weight threshold, you can move on to the next stage.

The rope-cutting mechanic the franchise is known for is also here, this time appearing as an obstacle throughout the levels. Other mechanics include wooden platforms used to change the candies' trajectory, and white candies that will change color when they collide with other sweets. There's also a mechanic taken straight out of Angry Birds Dream Blast: a chain that shows the minimum amount of candy required for it to break, letting you progress.

The game seems to be quite far along in development already, but features a fair amount of reused assets, like Om Nom's 3D model – likely the same one used in Cut the Rope Remastered. Overall, everything looks and sounds quite good, aside from the UI which clashes with the 3D look of the rest of the game. Also, the app icon and key art may or may not be AI-generated – you be the judge.

Cut the Rope: Candy Trail is currently only available in four countries: India, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and the United States (it's AppMagic that calls Puerto Rico a country – don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger) on the Google Play Store.
