PS5 Emulation on mobile is already taking off... kinda

If you haven't been living under a rock these past few weeks, you'll know just how far PS5 emulation is advancing on PCs. Every single week there's a major jump in performance, and it's getting hard to keep up with all the news at this point.

PS5 emulation is obviously very demanding - top-of-the-line hardware is a necessity here - but that doesn't mean that people aren't trying to jam it into smartphones. After all, the Steam version of Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and other PS5-to-PC ports have already been shown running on flagships, so surely it's not impossible?

The emulator we're gonna be taking a look at is called CapyPS5 (Android only), made by the developers behind the Lemon Switch emulator. It can already pull off some impressive feats, even in its infancy.

This YouTube video from Creative GamerZ is a solid showcase for what I'm talking about. Keep in mind that the device in the video has a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 - one of the most powerful mobile chips on the market.

Simple 2D games, such as Dead Cells, Dreaming Sarah, God of War: Sons of Sparta and Marvel Cosmic Invasion are all able to run at 60 FPS already.

3D games with lower requirements, like Minecraft and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, are able to run at 60 FPS and around 40 FPS respectively.

But unsurprisingly, running demanding 3D games is not on the cards at the moment. Stray wasn't able to go past single-digit FPS numbers.

Keep in mind that CapyPS5 is not the only Android PS5 emulator in the works right now, but it's easily the most notable one. On the CapyPS5 website, you can find a compatibility list that shows other games that are playable right now.

Overall: PS5 emulation on mobile is completely impractical right now, but it's a very impressive achievement. Whenever there's any major updates, we'll report on them.

Also, here's Astro Bot running at single-digit FPS. Pretty cool, sort of...
