Crash On The Run is now fully playable OFFLINE, after 3 years

No game is safe from resurrection anymore

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! was an endless runner spinoff game based on the classic platformer franchise. Developed by King, it was released in March 2021, but didn't survive for very long, being delisted less than 2 years later in February 2023.

But now - thanks to the work of dedicated fans - the game is not only fully playable again, this time you don't even need an internet connection as the whole game runs locally. This means that even if King requests a takedown of the game, it can never really stay dead again as long as the APK is floating around.

The way this works is pretty interesting - a small "pocket server" runs inside the app itself, which tricks it into thinking it's online. Something tells me we'll be seeing this technique applied to more revivals as time goes on.

Here are more details on this revival:

  • It's based on version 1.140.36, the last release with the old UI (before November 2021)
  • In the shop, every single purchase is free and delivered instantly. Real money items cost 0 crystals
  • At the start you have 10.000 crystals, 100.000 wumpa fruit and 20 tickets
  • Six seasons rotating weekly, including Battle of the Dragons and Survival of the Fastest
  • Premium Bandicoot Pass unlocked for free
  • Team leaderboard with a reward on the last day of the week
  • Teams work offline - other players, aka rivals and teammates, are simulated
  • Like the original, some features unlock as you collect Power Gems - progression system stays intact

Technical improvements:

  • FPS limit raised to 120 FPS
  • Several graphics settings added, High graphics at 120 FPS being the default
  • Save data management options added
  • Mod support added - edited game bundles are no longer rejected
  • 32-bit and 64-bit devices are supported
